After reading the Canons, there were several things that caught my attention, however the thing that caught my attention most was that it is clear that the Council explicitly rejected and pronounced anathemas upon the doctrine of double predestination stating, "We not only do not believe that any are foreordained to evil by the power of God, but even state with utter abhorrence that if there are those who want to believe so evil a thing, they are anathema."
This is quite interesting because this is a strong rejection of the doctrine double predestination all the way back in A.D. 529. This is significant, because it appears to be apparent that the doctrine of double predestination has always been rejected by the church catholic and considered as aberrant.
So, how should we view the doctrine of double predestination today? According to the Council of Orange, we should abhor it, consider it evil, and cast anathemas upon it. Let us consider the words and testimony of the early church.
